  1. That´s both interesting and makes perfect sense, as the French for nickname is surnom, which at first confused me but which also translates as extra name.
    Also delightful that we eke out names 🙂

        So you have your prénom(s) then your nom. Sometimes called ‘nom de famille’. And if you’re a woman you tend to be saddled with your maiden name whether you like it or not, so you become prénom-nom de jeune file- nom de famille.
